Theft from Motor Vehicle

Dear resident

We are currently experiencing a rise in vehicles being broken into within the Highfield area, and from reports, many vehicles are being left unlocked (we are all human).

The suspects work on percentages, and know that on average, roughly one in ten cars will be unlocked, and they will walk the entire length of a road trying every door handle. No doubt, many of you have seen such images on social media which circulates from time to time.

In regard to that, we are aware of some recent footage circulating on Facebook of a female trying door handles, and we are investigating.

Best wishes

Mick

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

  • Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.
  • Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle
  • When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.
  • Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.
  • Be aware of your keys.  Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken.  Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.
  • Register your valuables on www.immobilise.com.
  • Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
  • Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
  •

Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in the area.

If you need to report a crime please call 101 or go online here.
